Maple Reinders Group Ltd. and Bird Construction Inc., participants in the Harbour City Solutions (HCS) consortium — who each have a  50 per cent interest in the projectfor design, construction and capital works – has reached financial close and has subsequently been awarded the contract to design, build and finance the $106 millionHamilton Biosolids Management project, on behalf of the City of Hamilton.

“A major differentiator for Maple Reinders over its 50-year history is the large number of civil projects which we have delivered in an Alternate Project Delivery (APD) format,” Reuben Scholtens, Maple Reinders’ director of infrastructure development, said in a news release. “The Hamilton Biosolids Management project represents Maple Reinders’ third environmental project to be delivered specifically in the public-private partnership format. As the first contractor to achieve this in Canada, we are recognized leaders in successfully designing, building and commissioning these kinds of highly complex projects.”

Bird, meanwhile, says it has also taken a minority equity interest in the concession responsible for the design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance of the project through Bird Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary.

Construction is slated to commence in April with completion targeted for spring of 2020.
