A provincially-appointed review committee has begun its public consultation process as part of a review of the Workers Compensation Act. Manitoba’s legislation requires a comprehensive review of the act every 10 years.

The committee will be chaired by Michael Werier, a lawyer with experience as an arbitrator/mediator and expertise in employment and labour law, health law and civil litigation. He is also vice chair of the Manitoba Labour Board and chair of the Manitoba Labour Management Review Committee.

Werier will be joined by Chris Lorenc, a former lawyer and president of the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) and Western Canada Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association (WCR&HCA); Anna Rothney, special projects at the Manitoba Federation of Labour; and consultant Ken Sutherland.  The 90-day public consultation period will remain open until Feb. 15 with a report due by June 30.
