Ottawa architect Jonathan Hughes appointed to expand NORR’s institutional business

NORR’s architectural practice has appointed Jonathan Hughes, as vice president, public buildings for the Canadian practice, responsible for expanding the firm’s business in the institutional sector across the nation.

Hughes relocated from Kingston to Ottawa in 2008, where he became a NORR principal, following two years as the firm’s director of eastern ontario operations. Previously, he was the Kingston office manager.  Before joining NORR, Hughes worked as a project architect for Giffels, NORR’s sister company within the Ingenium Group, a privately owned business delivering global design and building solutions.

Silvio Baldassarra, executive vice-president of business development for NORR, said: `We are very pleased to announce Jonathan`s promotion. He has ably met every challenge we`ve set for him, and we believe he is the ideal leader for the growth of our public sector practice.”

In addition to managing the operations of NORR`s Ottawa and Kingston offices, Jonathan is responsible for some of NORR`s most important public sector projects, including the Collins Bay and Kingston Penitentiary redevelopments, the Southwest Detention Centre and the housing unit projects at both Collins Bay and Bath Institutions. Under his leadership, NORR secured one of the most significant projects now underway in Ottawa, the redevelopment of the Wellington Building, an integral part of the federal government`s long-term vision and plan for the Parliamentary precinct.
