                        "data": "duction of mandated prompt payment legislation in "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Ontario, spreading to federal projects and other "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "provinces. Project management software tools are inte- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "grating with mobile phones and devices, speeding up "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "job site reviews and processes. Modular building con- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "cepts, formerly considered a limited niche, have started "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "spreading to job sites where construction speed chal- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "lenges combine with labour shortages. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Meanwhile, the Construction News and Report "
                    },

                        "data": "Group, which publishes Canadian Design and Construc- "

                    },

                    },

                        "data": "ever, regulations in the new Ontario Construction Act "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "(which also mandated prompt payment) redefined "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "“newspaper” to allow digital publications – meaning that "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "we could, indeed, take the risk of launching the daily "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "cycle publication at ontarioconstructionnews.com. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "The newspaper has proven to sustainable, although I "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "needed to remember how to handle an incredible vol- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ume of material every day, like I did when I was much "
                    },
                    {

                    },

                        "data": "solution.” CBTU says in its statement that its "

                        "data": "members “proudly recruit, train and "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "support over half a million skilled "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "trades workers across Canada. We in- "
                    },

                        "data": "vest over $500 million to ensure our "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "members obtain consistent skills up- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "grading and that we develop modern "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "training to meet the ever-changing "
                    },
                    {

                        "data": "Hilton officials say the hotel currently has nine all-suites "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "hotels in the pipeline in Ontario, with an additional six ho- "
                    },

                        "data": "tels in other provinces. The hotel organization is cautious "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "about revealing specific details about upcoming projects "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "to protect commercial confidentiality, but the numbers – "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "and potential additional projects – indicate a multi-billion "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "dollar opportunity for designers and contractors. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "“It’s been a very robust market and in Canada, we see a "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "tremendous amount of growth on all levels, especially in "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "the all suites category,” said Alan Roberts, global head of "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Embassy Suites by Hilton. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "“In the U.S., the all-suites category represents about 16 "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "to 20 per cent of the marketplace in terms of inventory,” "
                    },

                        "data": "he said. “In Canada, it was 6 per cent five years ago – but "
                    },

                        "data": "that number is now closer to 4 per cent, as we’ve added "

                        "data": "Hilton has developed three brands in the category. Em- "

                        "data": "bassy Suites serves the high-end market, with full hotel "

                        "data": "gory is Homewood Suites, that takes a middle ground. "
                    },

                        "data": "Home2 Suites serves the budget end of the market – but "
                    },

                    },

                        "data": "hub, was named the first capital of "
                    },

                        "data": "the North-West Territories in 1876, "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "and was an important location during "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "the North-West Rebellion in 1885. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "How does the town plan on telling "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "these stories? The answer to this "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "question is something that Battle- "
                    },

                        "data": "ford’s Chief Administrative Officer, "
                    },

                    },

                    },

                        "data": "Battleford was named capital of "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "the North-West Territories after "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Canada purchased Rupert’s Land "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "from the Hudson’s Bay Company. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "The Land Title Registry office, which "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "is the oldest standing brick building "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "in Saskatchewan, housed all records "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "of purchased property in the North- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "west Territories. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "The new museum will showcase "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "the role that land surveyors have "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "played in developing Western "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Canada as we know it today. The "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Saskatchewan Land Surveyors Asso- "
                    },

                        "data": "ciation hopes it will open up this "
                    },

                        "data": "summer. “There has been a lot of history "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "here, so what we’re trying to do with "
                    },

                        "data": "the number of historic sites that we "
                    },

                        "data": "have – buildings, graves, and other "
                    },

                        "data": "sites – is we’re trying to figure out "
                    },

                        "data": "how we can tell these stories,” said "
                    },

                        "data": "Enns-Wind. Of course, not all of these stories "
                    },

                        "data": "are good ones. The Old Government "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "House, for example, was turned into "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "an Industrial School for First Nations "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "people. Nearby is a cemetery for the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "number of children who died from "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "tuberculosis and other fatal diseases. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "“We know the consequences of "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "this, and we’re still dealing with that "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "today,” said Enn-Wind. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Enns-Wind explained that the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "town is working on forming partner- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ships with the Heritage Conservation "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Branch, as well as their Indigenous "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "neighbours, to come up with ways to "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "represent Battleford’s rich history. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "“Without telling these stories, will "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "it be possible to have truth and rec- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "onciliation? What we’re trying to do "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "is figure out how we can tell these "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "stories that can honour the past but "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "also build our future.” "
                    },

                        "data": "What else does building the fu- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ture look like for Battleford? It means "
                    },

                        "data": "boosting tourism. "
                    },

                        "data": "The town has plans to revitalize "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "the town’s downtown core and is "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "currently working with its downtown "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "16 – Summer/Fall 2019 — The Canadian Design and Construction Report "

                        "data": "businesses on ideas that will help "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "drive tourism and the local economy. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "This summer, the town will be in "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "talks with these businesses to dis- "
                    },

                        "data": "cuss zoning bylaws and tax policies. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "“Right now we’re kind of at the be- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ginning stages of doing a lot of this "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "stuff,” Enns-Wind said. “We’re hop- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ing to get everything done in the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "next three to four years.” "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Building the future also means "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "preservation. The Battleford town "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "council just approved the first phase "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "of a storm sewer system that will "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "drain water from Industrial Park into "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "a ravine. The water is currently flow- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ing off the land surface, eroding the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "road and river bank and nearing the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "town’s waste water pipes. "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "“We really can’t have that because "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "that pipe takes water for the Indus- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "trial Park and also for our new subdi- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "vision and highway commercial area "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "north of the Park,” said Enns-Wind. "
                    },

                        "data": "itation: it’s a labour shortage. "
                    },

                        "data": "Lack of workers in skilled trades is "

                        "data": "not news in Canada. In fact, statis- "
                    },

                        "data": "tics say there will be a need for over "
                    },

                        "data": "100,000 new skilled workers in On- "
                    },

                        "data": "tario alone over the next decade, as "
                    },

                        "data": "workers retire and the construction "
                    },

                        "data": "industry continues to grow. This is "
                    },

                        "data": "especially true in Southwestern On- "
                    },

                    },
                    {
                        "data": "housing developments are driving "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "growth in construction. "
                    },

                        "data": "Like most trades in Canada, roof- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ing is facing a challenge of getting "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "new recruits to the job. “The num- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ber-one issue that every roofing con- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "tractor is struggling with is the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "shortage of workers,” says Jacques "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Beaulieu, president of CRCA. “We "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "need to get to attract people to the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "trade and better explain the benefits "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "of working in it.” "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "Many strategies are being used to "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "draw workers to the skilled trades: "
                    },

                        "data": "the Ontario Construction Consortium "
                    },

                        "data": "in May to get school-aged children "
                    },

                    },

                    },

                        "data": "and ensure the skilled trades are rec- "
                    },

                        "data": "ognized as a career of choice. "
                    },

                        "data": "Canada’s roofing industry, too, is "
                    },

                        "data": "focusing efforts on marketing to "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "young graduates - emphasizing the "
                    },

                        "data": "appeal of working without an office, "
                    },

                        "data": "in a job with a view. "
                    },

                        "data": "“We’re working to increase aware- "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "ness of the trades amongst the "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "younger crowd, people coming out "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "of high school that don’t know what "
                    },
                    {
                        "data": "they want to do yet,” Brunet says. "

                        "data": "“Roofing can be a great trade to "
                    },

                        "data": "be in. They don’t go to an office, they "
                    },

                        "data": "go on top of the building,” Brunet "
                    },
