designs and manufactures energy efficient
windows and doors for harsh climates

Hi-Tech Energy Windows Ltd. was born from Winnipeg
based Security Glass Services Ltd. and its need for quality
windows in a timely fashion. Since that time, the enterprise
has grown into a designer of energy efficient windows and
doors to meet the harsh local climate.

Sean Kapusta, Hi-Tech’s general manager, says the com-
pany has always focused on doing things a little differently.

“Our first foray into window manufacturing was hollowcore
PVC windows. Hi-Tech eventually designed and manufac-
tured its own PVC window systems for the special needs
and requirements demanded by Manitoba’s climate.”
Working with Quanex Building Products, Hi-Tech later
created the next generation of Windows, called SuperCore.

Kapusta says this product is uniquely suited to harsh
climates and higher demands for energy efficiency. “The
insulation value of this product is dramatically higher, as is
the strength of the material, its thermal conductivity and
screw retention,” he says.

Featuring a 4 ½ inch frame depth, the design can ac-
commodate up to a 1 3/8 inch sealed unit. It is eco-friendly
and 100 per cent recyclable. With a lifespan of 100 years
or more, compared with a 25-year lifespan of hollowcore
PVC, he says the product offers unmatched longevity.

“SuperCore windows are drawing a lot of attention from
places like northern Manitoba, the Yukon and Alaska where
the climate is more severe. It is also gaining attention in
the southern United States, where the window’s properties
are equally effective against heat.”
Kapusta says the window, with a true 1 3/8 tripane
sealed unit, has noise reduction properties, valuable in
especially busier areas. Its appearance, softened by its
clear sightlines and the platinum coloured spacer, gives it
a noticeably clean look that is popular with designers and
homeowners alike, he said.

“The flexibility in our design and the benefits of the prod-
uct means that even older homes can be upgraded to be
more energy efficient.”
Kapusta says while the company is always looking
ahead at new ideas and new technologies to better under-
stand what is coming and what might be incorporated to
improve the product, Hi-Tech is still operated much as it has
been in the past. “At our heart, we are a family owned and
operated company. That attitude is something that influ-
ences how we deal with each other, how we work with our
customers, and the suppliers we deal with.”
