Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS) on the cusp of National Building Code recognition
$500 million Canadian
industry continues growth
as leading cladding option
Canadian Design and Construction Report staff writer
Canada's half-billion dollar EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish Sys-
tems) industry is on the cusp of achieving National Building Code
(NBC) recognition as it continues to grow rapidly as a leading
cladding option for its optimal thermal performance features, di-
versity of architectural finishes and aesthetics.
EIFS provides optimal thermal performance for buildings of all
types and sizes, enabling architects and builders meet the new
and stringent national energy codes, says ECC president and CEO
John Garbin. The ECC, a national not-for-profit industry trade as-
sociation, represents the overall Canadian EIFS industry.
“During the last 18 to 24 months we have been able to com-
plete the development of our standards and help drive the rele-
vant 2015 National Building Code development efforts that have
culminated in the inclusion of EIFS in the proposed amendments
scheduled to appear in the new 2015 NBC,” Garbin said.
He said this major industry milestone will finally see
EIFS formally recognized in the NBC for the first time
since its introduction to Canada in the late 1970s.
