Sto Canada renews Canadian
EIFS commitment with
dedicated management,
technical director and sales reps

Sto Canada has renewed its presence in the Cana-
dian EIFS marketplace, appointing Bob Storey as new
general manager and relocating technical director
John Edgar back to Canada. The company has also ex-
panded its sales force by adding two new dedicated
sales representatives in 2013.
Sto Corp. a leader in cladding and coating systems
for building construction, restoration and maintenance
started serving Canada in 1987, but North American
operations were centralized in Atlanta, Georgia. Storey
says Sto has always had a desire to have a thriving
Canadian business and realized to achieve this Sto
Canada needed to operate more as an independent
business unit, focused on the unique needs and cir-
cumstanced of the Canadian construction industry .
“We recognized we had to approach the Canadian
market from a Canadian perspective,” he said. “There
are fundamental design differences between Cana-
dian and U.S. markets, along with differences in
codes, in climate and in preferred building materials.
For example, the Canadian climate creates design re-
quirements in the building envelope that are not typi-
cal in the US markets, such as the common need for
the air and moisture barrier to also act as a vapour bar-
rier.” Sto Canada has more than 20 distributor partner lo-
cations from coast to coast, and is part of a world-
wide network, tracing its roots to Germany in 1835.
Storey says this global connection will help the Cana-
dian market. “Canadian architects and designers tend
to be more inclusive when it comes to global influ-
ences,” he said. “That, combined with Canada’s cli-
mate, means we can turn to Europe and choose from
product and system options that are right for
Canada.” Storey says architects and engineers have started
designing to meet 2015 national building code regu-
