Independently-owned ML Ready Mix Concrete Inc. supplies ART Condominiums project with special mixes to achieve owner and architect's goals Canadian Design and Construction Report special feature ML Ready Mix Concrete Inc. received recognition at the 2013 Ontario Concrete Awards as winner in the Mid to High Rise Residential category for its work on the ART Condo- miniums project. This 11-storey building has 149 condominium units with exposed concrete feature walls, floors and ceilings. Rene Silva, quality and technical manager, says special mixes were required to achieve the architectural look and finishes. “The architect and owner were looking for a white finish that was seamless, without joints or deficiencies in each suite throughout the entire building.” Silva says ML conducted a lot of testing to ensure the concrete's look and consistency achieved design objec- tives. The work of pouring the massive amounts of concrete had to be scheduled during an eight month period, avoiding extreme winter colds that would have impacted the mix. ML Ready Mix Concrete started in 2003. Its family own- ers have 30 years' construction industry experience.
