The federal government has named former Trans Mountain CEO Dawn Farrell to head the new Major Projects Office, a one-stop hub for advancing large industrial construction projects. The office, part of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s push to fast-track “nation-building” projects, will be headquartered in Calgary, close to Canada’s energy industry.

Farrell’s experience in overseeing complex energy infrastructure and regulatory processes has drawn praise from industry groups, while some Indigenous and environmental organizations have expressed concern about potential impacts on consultation and environmental oversight.

The office will also establish an Indigenous Advisory Council, with members to be announced next month, as it begins managing federal approvals for projects deemed in the national interest.
