Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. recently announced it has been awarded a $1.9 billion contract to build a chemical plant in Oman.

The engineering and construction company said it will be a part of the project right from the development phase and will work closely with contractors in Oman, according to The Squamish Chief.

The plant is slated to be built about 150 kilometers from Oman’s capital, Muscat and is scheduled to produce polyvinyl chloride used to make plastic piping which will be exported to Asia. The plant will also produce sodium hydroxide to support local industries.
