The Alberta Dispute Adjudication for Construction Contracts (ADACC) has released its first annual report.
Since the prompt payment and construction lien act and the prompt payment and adjudication regulation came into force on August 29, 2022 and with Bill 30 extending the adjudication regime to public works on April 1, 2025, Alberta’s construction sector has gained a faster, and more cost-effective way to resolve payment disputes, supporters say.
ADACC began operations Nov. 24, 2025, and the first report covers work through March 31, 2026.
“Adjudication is designed to provide the construction industry with a faster and more cost effective alternative to traditional dispute resolution processes such as litigation and arbitration,” Elise Teitler, Managing Director, ADACC, said in the report. “Contractors, subcontractors, sub-subcontractors, and other industry participants increasingly recognize that adjudication enables them to resolve disputes quickly without halting ongoing construction projects.
“ADACC is committed to ensuring that parties have access to timely dispute resolution through a streamlined and user-focused process.”
Since commencing operations in November 2025, two adjudications were commenced at ADACC, and two determinations were rendered during the 2026 fiscal year.
“Looking ahead, ADACC anticipates continued growth in the use of adjudication as awareness of prompt payment and adjudication expands throughout Alberta,” Teitler said.
As a designated Nominating Authority, ADACC oversees and administers construction-related adjudications across Alberta and trains and certifies adjudicators. We bring more than six and a half years of experience resolving disputes in Ontario through ODACC and federally through CanDACC. This experience positions us to deliver adjudication in Alberta with expertise, independence, and efficiency.
If you have a construction-related dispute, adjudication lets you resolve it quickly, without halting your project.
