Aecon’s 2023 Sustainability Report highlights the Toronto-headquartered construction company’s achievements in advancing the energy transition and promoting sustainable communities.
With 64% of revenue and 75% of backlog related to sustainability projects, the company is committed to supporting the transition to a net-zero future, Aecon says in a statement released on April 22.
Some of the key accomplishments listed in the report include the refurbishing of additional units at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, the delivery of North America’s first grid-scale Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington nuclear site, and the Oneida Energy Storage project in Ontario. Aecon was also awarded a contract for the replacement of condensers and feedwater heaters at the North Anna Power Station in Virginia.
The report also highlights Aecon’s efforts to reduce environmental and social impacts. With a 20% cumulative reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions since 2020, the company is on track to achieve its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Aecon has also achieved Silver Certification in Progressive Aboriginal Relations from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and has implemented new initiatives around its Safety Always culture, recording a Total Recordable Injury Frequency of 0.89.
