Canadian and Design Construction writer
Arcadis has been selected by Public Services and Procurement Canada and Transport Canada as the prime consultant for the design of a new Digby Ferry Terminal, following a competitive procurement process.
Under the contract, Arcadis will lead the architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and engineering services required to replace the existing ferry terminal. The project will consolidate the current terminal and ticketing facilities—currently housed in two separate buildings dating back to the 1970s—into a single, modern facility.

The Digby Ferry Terminal serves as a critical transportation link for vehicles and passengers traveling between Digby, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick, supporting regional mobility, tourism, and economic activity. The new two-storey terminal will be constructed within the existing site footprint and will accommodate ticketing, waiting and arrival areas, public washrooms, administrative offices, intelligent transportation communications systems, and staff amenities.
According to Arcadis, the new terminal will be designed to withstand the challenging Bay of Fundy environment while enhancing passenger safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency. The project will also prioritize maintaining uninterrupted ferry service throughout the construction process.

The project further strengthens Arcadis’ presence in Canada’s transportation infrastructure sector and builds on the company’s international marine and port experience, including projects at the Port of Calais in France and the DFDS terminal in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands. It also expands the firm’s portfolio in Atlantic Canada, where it is currently designing the Wrights Cove Transit Terminal in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, in support of the region’s bus rapid transit network.
