Statistics Canada is reporting a 1.1 per cent drop in building construction investment to $21.4 billion in October.
Investment in the residential building construction sector decreased by $312.3 million to $14.9 billion in October and non-residential building increased by $69.0 million to $6.5 billion.
The largest decrease happened in the multi-unit sector which was down 5.1 per cent from September. At the same time, investment in single family home construction increase 1.6 per cent, to $7.1 billion.
Also in October, industrial construction increased 1.9 per cent to $1.4 billion, with Ontario and Manitoba leading the way and moderating declines in four provinces and one territory.
Commercial construction also increased slightly – 0.3 per cent to $3.2 billion, with gains in Ontario and declines in seven provinces and two territories.
