LAVAL, QC – Montoni Group has broken ground on a new cultural facility in downtown Laval, set to become the largest cultural site in Québec in the past decade, with a budget of about $150 million.
Designed by Atelier TAG and NEUF architect(e)s, the four-storey complex will span 258,000 square feet and is scheduled for completion in 2027. It will serve as a cultural hub, featuring a main library, an auditorium, an art gallery, a dance studio, and event spaces. The facility will also include accommodations for artists to support creative residencies.
The project has received substantial funding, including $44 million from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and more than $6 million from the Ministère de l’Environnement, as part of Québec’s 2030 Plan for a Green Economy.
“We are honoured to be able to contribute to our city’s growth and vitality with this ambitious and forward-looking project for our community,” said Dario Montoni, president of Montoni Group. “The architectural design and energy efficiency innovations make it a model of sustainable development.”
The building is targeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification and will incorporate sustainable design features such as an integrated sponge park for rainwater management and geothermal wells. A public green rooftop terrace is also planned to help combat heat islands, enhance biodiversity, and improve overall energy efficiency.
Montoni Group has completed more than 700 projects totaling over 30 million square feet across various sectors. With another 25 million square feet currently in development, Montoni continues to prioritize innovative and environmentally conscious building practices.
