Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of Brampton’s new Peel Memorial Hospital this week.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone as we get shovels in the ground for the new Peel Memorial Hospital, which will support improved care and continued growth in Brampton, throughout Peel Region and beyond,” said Premier Doug Ford. “The investments we are making across the province will help transform health care, with $50 billion supporting more than 50 hospital projects across Ontario. It’s all part of our plan to ensure people across the province can get the high-quality, connected and convenient care they need, when and where they need it.”

Pre-construction work is actively underway and early construction on the site is expected to get underway following the groundbreaking ceremony The final design and construction timeline will be established in partnership with the successful proponent.

“This moment not only paves the way for expanded hospital services, but also honours 100 years of quality, compassionate care on this site,” said Dr. Frank Martino, president and CEO of William Osler Health System. “We are deeply grateful to our government partners for their collaboration and investment in making this vision a reality.”

Once completed, the expanded Peel Memorial Hospital will include:

  • multi-storey patient tower with up to 250 inpatient beds, with the capacity to add more beds in the future.
  • 24/7 emergency department designed to offer a wide range of urgent and emergency medical care.
  • Expanded post-acute care services, helping to free up additional space for acute care beds at Brampton Civic Hospital.
  • Enhanced mental health and addictions programs, including medically assisted withdrawal management.
  • Specialized services for seniors, including dementia care.
  • Rehabilitation and complex continuing care services.
  • Nine new inpatient dialysis stations and expanded outpatient services.
  • New and enhanced outpatient clinics, including a fracture clinic.

With about $46.8 million already invested in capital planning for the project, the hospital expansion is set to significantly increase the William Osler Health System’s capacity to provide specialized care. This expansion will play a critical role in meeting the growing healthcare demands of Peel Region, especially as the population continues to rise.

“The new Peel Memorial Hospital will help community members access world-class healthcare services while reinforcing how our region is growing,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, MPP for Brampton South. “This project is an example of how investment in infrastructure supports Brampton’s future success.”
