Turner & Townsend has been appointed as the prime vendor to assist Capital Power and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in developing the necessary risk management systems, standards, and best practices for Small Modular Reactor (SMR) generation facilities.
This collaboration is part of the initial information-gathering phase to explore the feasibility of deploying grid-scale SMRs in Alberta. If successful, the project could help address the increasing electricity demand in the region, with a solution for sustainable energy generation.
Turner & Townsend’s energy and natural resources team in Canada will review federal requirements, industry best practices, and risk management systems. Their work will focus on nuclear operations risk management and the critical systems and controls needed for all phases of potential SMR project development.
