Bird Construction Inc. announced in late September that the Boreal Health Partnership consortium has reached financial close of a contract to design, build, finance and maintain the Stanton Territorial Hospital project in Yellowknife, NWT.

Bird is the managing partner and has a 50 per cent  interest in the construction joint venture that will design and build the project. It also holds a 25 per cent equity interest in the concession responsible for the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the project through Bird Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary.

The new hospital will be adjacent to the current facility with a floor area of more than 280,000 sq. ft.  and will offer outpatient and inpatient services including emergency, medical imaging, dialysis, obstetrics, pediatric, cardio and mental health departments as well as day procedure and surgery suites.

“The company is very excited to begin work on site” said Bird’s president and CEO Ian Boyd in a news release.  “The project presents a number of unique design and execution challenges. By providing an entirely new facility, we can deliver the project faster and with minimal disruption to services. As well, a ground-up design approach provides the maximum opportunity to create a facility which best meets the requirements of the residents of the Northwest Territories and the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.”
