Bird Construction Inc. has announced that it has executed a contract to design, build and short-term finance the Moncton Downtown Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick.
On Aug. 21, 2015 Bird announced that it was named preferred proponent for the project. Since that announcement, Bird has achieved financial close.
The 250,000 sq. ft. facility will include a single NHL-sized ice surface with more than 9,000 permanent seats which can be configured with up to 10,000 seats to accommodate other events. The Downtown Centre also includes flex space, a club lounge, private boxes and a multi-use outdoor plaza facility.
The company expects to start site development this fall with full construction starting in the spring of 2016. The new arena is expected to be open by the fall of 2018.
