Canada’s construction industry is calling for urgent action on infrastructure investment as the federal election approaches.
The Construction for Canadians campaign, launched by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA), is backed by 57 national, provincial, and regional construction associations across the country.
“The construction industry is the backbone of Canada’s growth, shaping the communities we call home and building the infrastructure that keeps our country moving forward,” campaign supporters said in a statement. “From the roads we drive on to the schools our children learn in, the hospitals that care for us, and the homes where memories are made — construction workers make it all possible.”
The campaign highlights the critical role the construction industry plays in shaping Canada’s landscape, driving economic growth, connecting communities, and building a prosperous future. However, supporters say the sector faces significant challenges, including underinvestment, a shrinking workforce, and outdated policies.
“A strong construction industry is the key to a strong Canada,” said Rodrigue Gilbert, president of the CCA. “To support long-term growth, the next federal government must make necessary and overdue investments in trade-enabling infrastructure, workforce development, and modernized procurement.”
Gilbert warned that without strategic investments, Canada risks falling further behind. “We need bold action to ensure our industry has the resources, talent, and opportunities to keep building a strong economy and communities where Canadians can thrive,” he added.
The construction sector has a significant impact on Canada’s economy, employing more than 1.6 million workers and contributing $151 billion annually.
