A ribbon cutting ceremony was held this week in Valcartier at the newly-constructed facilities for the Canadian Army’s new Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicles (TAPV) at 2nd Canadian Division Support Base Valcartier.

This infrastructure project in Valcartier began in 2013 and is the first TAPV facility to be completed. The full cost of the project was $36.2 million, which included the study, design, construction, administration, and taxes.

A media release said the Leed Silver facilities, completed three months ahead of schedule, will house 129 new TAPVs, provide maintenance bays and cleaning space for the vehicles and equipment, and classrooms for the training of seven units on the base.

Defence minister Harjit S. Sajjan was quoted as saying: “As a former reservist with the Canadian Armed Forces, I am certain that these new facilities will directly benefit our women and men in uniform by reinforcing their ability to safely and efficiently perform their daily activities as well as maintain high value equipment.”

Delivery of the TAPV to the base reportedly began in mid-November 2016, and all 129 vehicles are expected to be delivered to Valcartier by February 2017. These vehicles will be used for a variety of tasks on the battlefield, including reconnaissance and surveillance, security, command and control, and as cargo and armoured personnel carriers.

New facilities for TAPV are also being constructed in Gagetown, New Brunswick; Petawawa, Ontario; and Edmonton, Alberta. Existing facilities in Shilo, Manitoba; Meaford, Ontario; and Valcartier, Québec, will require renovation and/or additions.

  1. As a previous Paint-mfr Sales Rep., I’m thrilled to hear Canada’s emerging leadership role in this most important and timely Initiative. Rather than going into the dump or, worse, into a land-fill or water supply, the fact that paint can be re-cycled is a “no-brainer”.

The Paint Industry, and the Association deserve recognition for this eco-friendly Action and showing Leadership.
